THE REASON WE CHOSE THIS MESSAGE BOARD IS 'COS IT HAS NO ADS, YOU DON'T HAVE TO LOG IN, BE A MEMBER OR EVEN LEAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS

MESSAGE BOARD suspended due to spam :(

This whole chat section is divided into two parts - there is also this kinda rants section below, where you send us whatever you've got to say and we post it on this page - this can then be grist to the mill of the message board - but of course the message board has many a topic strand unrelated to this page -

------------------------------------------------------

RANTS

we may just pinch some ideas that come up here for our future issue, feel free to write in the style of a newspaper column and then we can lift it easier! - ah, the eternal cosmic cycle!!

Send us what's on your intersellar mind

HARPS DISCORD

Oi you lot, leave our ionosphere alone – I can't believe they even admit they're doing it for military reasons – it's my ionosphere too! - you can check out the HAARP ( High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program) website http://www.haarp.alaska.edu/haarp/index.html

SATELLITES OF ENNUI by RIZ

Well your basic satellite, like everything else, comes in three forms.

Research satellites

even though an understanding of the carbon cycle is all it takes to conclude greenhouse gasses must not be pumped into the air anymore, climatologists keep burning tons of fuel to get planetwatching satellites up into space. Whilst these monitoring satellites are making planet earth feel like it's in a floating intensive care unit, there are others such as Gravity Probe B, which is hanging above the north pole measuring how much the earth's spin is twisting space-time like an infinite cosmic plughole.

Military

mainly the worlds spy satellites, 'defence' communications and weapon tracking systems. George Bush is currently arguing against upholding the International Non-Weaponization of Space Treaty claiming, as weapon tracking satellites are already up there, that space IS ALREADY weaponized, so let's go the whole hog and get some blasters up there*

Commercial satellites

most of these are obviously communication satellites But a European consortium are starting to send up Galileo, a network of Global Positioning Satellites. GPS is licensed off American military positioning satellites with a reduced accuracy but Galileo is gonna give pinpoint positioning. As it was paid for by private investment the extraordinary amount of money these 30 odd satellites cost has to be re-cooped. To pay the bill, the owners are trusting the general public will be so delighted with the fun and imaginative opportunities that businesses can come up with for us to be spied on within an inch of our lives, we will gladly foot the bill. Best get saving up now to avoid disappointment.

* the second part of the NFIRE program, the world's first ‘Kill Vehicle' (their term) in space is due to be launched by The USA's Missile Defence Agency - for more info try space.skyrocket.de/doc_sdat/ nfire .htm

SPACE FILLER by Patrick Hardcore

Why is it we call wots up there, space?

there sure is a lot of space up there but the space is filled with mind-bogglingly huge voids of superheated magnetic gases, mysterious superheated vacuums and, of course, a coupla zillion galactic superclusters.

HARKS

The word universe is even more off-putting, as it gives the impression that space isn't a bunch of separate forces and fields. It all harks back to when we first of all thought the Earth was at the centre of a UNI-verse (meaning one-turn)

INSTRUMENTS

Then the more we look, the more the goalposts kept moving. It's kept us on our toes asking the question “where is the centre now?” next it was the sun? very lately it was our galaxy? ,then our supercluster? How about - as far as our instruments can see?

Well yes, is the answer that's where we've got to so far, the Universe is 15 Billion years old because that's how far we can see (15 Billion Light years).

OBSCURES

Anything further away than that, well it's so far away, its light hasn't reached us. The Big Bang idea justifies the Single-God tradition of our culture, but it obscures understanding of a decent model for what's up and out there, with all its Voodoo mumbo-jumbo about dark matter and energy. Save it for the therapist, we want enlightenment not angst. Tell it how you see it; It's all the interaction of several webs, frameworks, matrix, objects, Gods, whatever you want to call them and their outcome. Unity actually means something if it's all not united to start with.

I want to rant too
